Chanukkah Lunch Post
12.07.10
My father grew up the son of Jews so secular they had a Christmas tree Chanukkah bush. My mother, an agnostic who was raised Greek Orthodox, believed that any holiday was worth celebrating if it was sufficiently festive. Especially if it involved gifts. She is the one who championed Chanukkah in our house, with menorahs and dreidels and tiny presents, all vaguely tied into Santa and the tree. We continue this non-traditional tradition in our house, playing Adam Sandler’s song as we light the shammush.
