Lunch Post: Queequeg dreams of… [after]

01.19.12

It took me a while, but I finally read Herman Melville‘s Moby-Dick when I was in my late 20s. As I devoured it, I was so thankful I hadn’t been forced to pretend to read it in high school. If you haven’t waded into this justifiably-heralded epic, treat yourself…if you have a couple of weeks to immerse yourself.

Ben was introduced to it through my friend Sam Ita’s spectacular pop-up version (if you don’t know Sam’s work yet, you need to check it out. His re-imaginings of classics from Frankenstein to the Odyssey are incredible paper engineering…”pop-up” is an inadequate word for it) and then went on to read the Classic Starts children’s version. Like me, his favorite character was the tattooed harpooner Queequeg. In fact, we recently adopted a 7-week-old kitten, who was so covered with distinctive markings, we named her Queequeg. She’s certainly fierce enough to hunt whales.

Yum. Whale brains.
